The main goal of Lumina 2022 is to allow students explore dierent ideas, and create collaborative scenes that reflect their unique interpretations of the future of fashion. OUR GOAL

PRESERVING THE FUTURE.

In order to ensure that there is a future, we are partnering with the Kasiisi Project to help protect our planet for future generations. This year, we are raising money to provide students in Kasiisi, Uganda with educational colouring books. These books educate the students about sustainability and raise money for the conservation of the Kibale Forest. This partnership allows students to become more conscious about the importance of protecting the environment, as well as ensure that SCS is doing our part to preserve the future.

Nature and The Forest Nature is something that has been constant throughout all of time, it itself is timeless. Despite all of the damage we’ve done to our environment, it persists. Our theme will showcase outfits that convey the beauty and elegance of nature.

Science and fashion Our scene explores the intersection of science and art, specifically biomimicry fashion wear. We want to explore how nature’s designs influence our daily lives, and how to incorporate these insights into fashion wear.

Burning Down The House An interpretation of the future of fashion through the lens of a removal of the trend cycle. Based on the individuality of the wearer with inspiration from the quintessentially expressive kitsch aesthetic of the 80’s alternative scene and its subsequent modern recurrence.

1970s, 1980s, 1990s Our scene aims to fight back against fast fashion by reworking trends from the past into a more modern setting. We want to prove that out-of-fashion clothing shouldn’t be thrown out, and that the marketing and manipulation of companies should not define what we wear. Fighting against fashion trends allows for stronger self-expression and a more sustainable future.

Blazers/Suits Our theme breaks the gender stereotypes of blazers/suits. Anyone can wear anything, genders do not and should not come into play. The future of fashion is people expressing themselves through their clothing, no matter how you identify. As we move into the future where we all as a society are becoming more and more inclusive.

The Art and Contrast of the Future Contrasting the past, present and future, we believe that fashion is heading towards experimentation and turning outfits into wearable art rather than just clothing. Including elements of retrofuturism, androgyny and costume design, while also focusing on the experimentation of unconventional and asymmetrical structures, cutouts and patterns.

Eco Friendly Fashion Our future is dependent on environmental action taken now. Today, the world of fashion has been overtaken by the harmful industry of fast-fashion. Thank you to everyone who helped work on Lumina this year! We couldn’t have done it without everyone's help! The production would not have been possible without the generosity and support of the Parents’ Association. We greatly appreciate their support in funding the materials for each design in the show as well as providing access to recording and production materials. The Parents’ Association has been extremely influential in creating the virtual production this year.
